VANCOUVER, BC -- This winter’s rain, wind, and snow didn’t just ravage Vancouver’s landscape – they also did a number on Vancouverites’ skin.
Now, with Spring officially here, it’s time to wake up that tired winter face. But with so many skin care options available, it can be hard to know which products will work best for any one person’s skin.
That’s why “face mapping” – a new concept in skin care analysis developed by The International Dermal Institute – is creating a buzz in Kitsilano.
After a year in business with her Honey Dew day spa, owner Kristen Foote noticed that skin care confusion was a common theme for many of her clients. So she decided to incorporate Skin Bar -– a safe, fun, and free way for anyone to get a customized skin care analysis and learn how to give themselves a spa-quality facial at home – to her list of services.
“We started skin bar to help educate people about their skin and how to properly care for it,” Foote said.
Using skin mapping, Foote divides each client’s face into 14 zones, each of which is analyzed to determine specific problems and create a custom skin care regimen that works for all zones of a client’s face.
With the skin map complete, each client is given access to all the products they need to perform their own facial at the spa, while Foote and her staff stand by with steamed towels, refreshments, and a healthy dose of professional guidance and advice.
So far, Skin Bar events have been a hit.
“It was very informative,” said Michelle, a Honey Dew client who came to a Skin Bar event with her friend Becky. “We both felt like pampered princesses.”
Honey Dew Day Spa hosts free Skin Bar events once a month for up to six clients, but groups of six can book their own skin bar session at any time by calling the spa or visiting their web site at www.honeydew.ca. The next Skin Bar event is scheduled for May 6.
“It’s a great chance to relax, hang out, and have fun with your girlfriends,” Foote said. “And of course, guys are welcome too!”
