Top 1000 Professionals, a grass roots online professional network gaining momentum across Facebook, recently conducted a political survey of it's 1,000+ members in Greater Chicago, IL. The survey, which was a first of it's kind for the group, was designed to learn about the political make-up of the members based on past voting records, how members viewed themselves politically, and which issues are most important to each member.
Top 1000 Professionals also recently conducted similar surveys in other member cities including Tampa, Orlando, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Kansas City and Boston. For each city, a series of standard (general) questions were asked such as gender, age range, past election voting patterns, etc. Additionally, each survey included questions about upcoming local elections and specific issues.
Within the Chicago Top 1000 Professional Survey, members were asked whether they were planning to vote for Republican nominee Mark Kirk or Democratic nominee Alexi Giannoulias. Of the 120+ members (10% of the total group) who completed the anonymous survey, nearly 37% said they were planning to vote for Kirk, while 23% chose Giannoulias (37% were not planning to vote or chose 'Other').
Additionally, 37% of members viewed themselves as 'Moderate Conservatives' versus 27% viewing themselves as 'Moderate Liberals'. Also, Fox News led the way over other News Networks with a 31% viewership, followed by NBC (13%) and ABC (11%).
Top 1000 plans to re-visit this survey closer to the November mid-term elections.
