The Gulf Coast Amateur Basketball Association (GCABA) is a new Adult Men's Basketball League forming along Florida's Gulf Coast (Sarasota / Bradenton). The new, highly organized league has plans to become the premier basketball league in the Tampa Bay area by providing competitive players a professional-style environment. Some of the plans put forth by the league already include:
- Faster paced games. 35 second shot clock - Competitive, evenly matched teams. Players added to teams according to ability. - Statistics kept and posted to website and media. Scoring, Rebounds, Assists, FT % and more... - Multimedia posted to website. Game photos, videos and more. - Live streaming video of games on GCABA website. - Professional attire. Great gear to make you look like a player... even if you're not! - Guaranteed Minutes. All players must play a minimum of 25% of the game. - One strike policy. Argue with another player or ref and you're gone. - Mid-Season Tournaments - Coming Soon! - NCAA sanctioned - Coming Soon!
"This area is prime for a well-organized, competitive basketball league," said Bill Jula, Commissioner and Founder of the new league. "Having participated in the Southwest Amateur Basketball Association in as a player over 15 years ago, I can relate to ballplayers who are looking for something more than the everyday Men's Leagues offered by area non-profits."
The league plans to emulate the success of the Southwest ABA by attracting top-flight players, keeping statistics, NCAA sanctioning, shot clocks, mid-season tournaments, and first-class equipment. The league also plans to leverage technology to bring even more exposure to all of the players, their families and more. At it's peak, the SWABA was able to attract most of the state's best players of that era as well as many professional players from the CBA, USBL, and the NBA's Orlando Magic.
"Our players will be treated with an experience not to dissimilar from what pro athletes experience with each player receiving an individual profile page complete with their own statistics, video highlights, photos and more," said Jula. "I plan to bring my combined experiences with both technology and professional sports to the table to make this league a great experience for everyone involved."
The league plans to launch a small Fall league in the coming weeks in order to lay the foundation for a much larger Summer league in 2010. For more information about the league visit:
