A janitor often does cleaning work - and much else besides. If you want to get work as a cleaner, you first need to know how to clean things properly and efficiently. There are certain cleaning agents and products that can be used on certain things but not on others. If you like to see things sparkling clean, then you will get satisfaction out of your job as cleaner.
In many cases, you may be able to get work with a team of professional cleaners. Another way to get work as a cleaner is to simply advertise for private residential cleaning. This can be done via word-of-mouth or ads in the local newspaper. A three or four bedroom house will take several hours to clean, depending on what is required.
Generally, a house cleaner does not do windows or walls. They vacuum the floors and shampoo carpets, mop and scrub, dust and polish floors and furniture. They may be required to empty ashtrays and put clothes and toys away. They could also be required to do the laundry and ironing, sweep the veranda and path, clean the oven and do the dishes. Cleaning the toilet and bath is also part of a domestic cleaners duty. Mostly, the employer will tell you what they want done, and you will agree - if you want the job.
