If you are thinking of a career in the child care industry you may be wondering exactly what is involved. There are three groups of childcare workers and each requires slightly different abilities and work. Babysitting is done in the client's household and paid by the hour. It is often done after school hours or at night while the parents are out. Some babysitters may be required to do the washing up, washing or other light household duties once the child is asleep. Others are there simply to provide the child with a safe environment, so they can sit and watch TV in the later hours.
A baby sitter may bathe, feed and dress the child or baby. They may need to take the child to an appointment, play with them and/or oversee their homework all depending on the age of the child. A nanny has a more comprehensive job of caring for children all day and during the night as well. She may live with the family or in her own apartment. A nanny is responsible for everything to do with the child or children she takes care of. This includes cleaning up after the child, cooking meals, washing clothes and certainly teaching discipline.
A childcare worker cares for the child or children in a setting outside the home. Some work alone, but most work with several other adults and several children. Caring for them socially, physically, intellectually and emotionally is important,
