(Nashville, TN - August 4, 2008) Former PovertyNeck Hillbillies frontman Chris "Abby" Abbondanza has officially launched a new solo career with the release of his first single, "Promised Land" on Matchless Records.
Abbondanza co-wrote the track with Bob Corbin, Gary Duffy and John Colgin as a narrative tale that reflects back on his younger days. "That song is actually a true story," says Abbondanza. "But no names or places were changed to protect anybody!" he says, laughing.
Shawn Pennington and Steve Peffer produced "Promised Land" at The Sound Kitchen in Nashville. Marco Promotions has signed on to promote the single and forthcoming album, tentatively due out in November.
Abbondanza joined the Hillbillies in 2002 in Pittsburgh, where the band was a regional success. They sold over 50,000 copies of their two independently released albums on the basis of word of mouth exposure and extensive touring along the East Coast. Hits like "Mr. Right Now" and "Hillbilly State of Mind" garnered national attention before the band broke up earlier this year.
